Dollar Mixed On Budget Outlook

The do-or-die theme of the federal budget talks spread to the foreign exchange market Tuesday, leaving the dollar mixed against major currencies as traders sought safety by nullifying their positions.

Poor German unemployment figures and hints of lower German interest rates failed to affect the dollar, leaving it unchanged against the mark.

In late New York trading, the dollar was quoted at 104.65 yen, down from 105.30 yen late Monday. The dollar was worth 1.4395 marks in New York, unchanged from Monday.
