Milton Lang Recognized For Recruiting Students

Milton Lang, director of recruitment for Washington State University’s College of Education, has been recognized by the Washington State Association for Supervision and Curriculum for his success in recruiting and retaining minority students at the college.

Lang has increased the number of minority students from 19 to 78 in two years.

Helen Diggs, has been appointed the chief director of the Animal Care Laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley.

Diggs is a licensed laboratory animal care veterinarian in Oregon and Washington.

She has served seven years as head veterinary medical officer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Portland while holding a position as assistant professor of animal care at Oregon Health Sciences University.

Diggs is the daughter of Charlie and Mary Helen Diggs of Spokane.

The Grand Coulee Dam Chamber of Commerce recently installed its officers for 1996:

David Schmidt, president of the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union, will serve his third year as the chamber president. Executive board officers are: Ron LeMay, president-elect; Sharon Hollingsworth, secretary; and Mark Neumann, treasurer.

The board of directors will be: Dave Portch, Grand Coulee; Mervin Schmidt, Coulee Dam; Gary Norris, Electric City, Wash.; Sue Shear, Grand Coulee; Ileta English, Coulee Dam; Wayne Tindoll, at large; and past president, Beverly Smick.

Air National Guard Sgt. Stephanie Roberson has graduated from the communications-computer systems operations apprentice course at Keesler Air Force Base, Buloxi, Miss. Roberson is the daughter of Kathleen and Seth D. Roberson, Medical Lake.

Karen Sue Cockburn, completed work in the doctoral program at Washington State University. Cockburn, a past recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education and the Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teaching, conducted her research on early childhood education in the area of mathematics.

Cockburn, the current mathematics department chair at Ferris High School, teaches calculus and geometry. She will soon take on the role of president of the Washington State Mathematics Council.
