Two Teens Sentenced For Role In Kidnapping, Torture Of Man

From For the record (January 11, 1996): A 14-year-old Davenport, Wash., boy was given a variable sentence Tuesday of 3 to 3-3/4 years for his role in the Nov. 12 torture of a 19-year-old man. His sentecne was wrong Wednesday.

Two teenagers were sentenced Tuesday for their roles in the Nov. 12 torture of a Davenport man.

John Brown Jr., 19, told police he was beaten, choked and pierced with darts for 3-1/2 hours after other participants in a beer party wrongly suspected him of being a narcotics informer.

Four juveniles and two adults were charged in the assault.

A 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment for beating Brown on the head with a broomstick and helping others imprison him in the home of the two adult defendants.

Lincoln County Superior Court Judge Philip Borst sentenced the weeping girl to five to 7-1/2 months in a state juvenile institution.

A 14-year-old boy who beat Brown with his fists received a three-month sentence for assault and kidnapping.

Bill Manion, Lincoln County Juvenile Court Services director, said the boy had seven prior felony convictions.

He was expelled from Spokane’s Sacajawea Middle School last January for spraying another student with pepper spray and kicking him while he was on the ground, court records show.

Trials are pending for other defendants in the torture case. They include 17-year-old William O. Hill, a suspect in the Dec. 21 arson fire that extensively damaged the Lincoln County Courthouse.
