And The Winner Is … Ibm, Again

IBM Corp. received the most U.S. patents in 1995, topping the list for the third consecutive year.

International Business Machines Corp. got 1,386 patents, the research firm IFI/Plenum Data Corp., which compiles an annual list, said Wednesday. Japan’s Canon Inc., the computer, camera and copier maker, was second with 1,091.

Motorola Inc., maker of computer chips, cellular phones and other technologies, was third with 1,016.

Among the major inventions of 1995 that IBM listed for itself: technologies that make it easier to use computer networks, allow computer chips to handle multiple instructions at the same time and increase the storage capacity of computer disk drives.
