New Lpga Tour Commissioner Satisfied By Cbs Decision

Compiled From Wire Services

Jim Ritts, the new commissioner of the Ladies Professional Golf Association, said Wednesday he was satisfied with CBS Sports’ decision to remove commentator Ben Wright from future golf coverage and “what I cared most about was that he won’t be involved in the LPGA.”

“We said from the start that it wouldn’t just be inappropriate for him to be doing any of our events, it would be wrong,” Ritts said in a telephone interview from Orlando, Fla., where the LPGA’s opening event of the 1995 season, the Chrysler-Plymouth Tournament of Champions, starts today.

Wright was taken off CBS golf coverage Tuesday for, among other reasons, remarks he made in a Wilmington, Del., newspaper about lesbians in the sport having a negative effect on attracting more corporate sponsorship for the LPGA.
