School Board Vacancy Draws Four Candidates Applications Will Be Accepted Until Jan. 31; Finalists Chosen In February

Carla K. Johnson Staff writer

At least four Spokane residents plan to apply for the Spokane School Board vacancy created by John Warn’s resignation.

The board will accept applications through Jan. 31.

Lonny Bingle, Nancy McLaughlin, Jennifer Roseman and Rocco Treppiedi said they will apply.

The board will choose finalists during the first two weeks of February, then conduct public interviews the week of Feb. 19.

Board members hope to pick the new member at their Feb. 28 or March 13 meetings. The appointee will serve until the next board election in 1997.

State law requires board members to be registered voters and district residents.

Applications are available at district headquarters, 200 N. Bernard.

Bingle and Treppiedi ran for the board last fall. Bingle lost in the primary. Treppiedi lost in the general election to Christie Querna.

All four applicants are parents who have served on district committees.

Bingle, 36, pastor of Spokane Faith Center, is married with four children. He is past PTO president at Arlington Elementary and on the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee. He lives on the North Side.

Treppiedi, 43, an assistant city attorney, is also a North Side resident. He is married with three children. He is a member of the district’s Gifted Education Parent Advisory Committee.

McLaughlin, 37, is PTO president at Madison Elementary and a member of the district’s Citizens Advisory Committee. She is married with three children. She works part time in her husband’s carpentry business and lives on the North Side.

Roseman, 43, directs communications and development for Community Colleges of Spokane. An East Central resident, she is married with two children. She serves on the district’s Public Relations Advisory Council and is past president of its Instructional Equity Citizens Advisory Committee.

Warn resigned Dec. 31 after 28 years on the school board.
