Bach Festival

Seating for Bach festival events is not reserved; arrive early for the best seats. The wooden pews at St. John’s Cathedral will seem very hard during the course of a concert; bring a cushion or a blanket to sit on. Here is a schedule of events in the Northwest Bach Festival:

Today

NOON - Master class by trumpet player David Hickman, Eastern Washington University Music Building recital hall.

8 P.M. “Brandenburg Concertos 1 & 2 and Cantata No. 64,” vocal and instrumental soloists with the Bach Festival Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Gunther Schuller. First Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Cedar. Preconcert lecture by Verne Windham: “What Color is Music? Bright Baroque Brass, Of Course!” (SOLD OUT)

Saturday

10 A.M.-4 P.M. “Harpsichord Happening,” piano students, their teachers and their parents encounter the harpsichord with Linda Siverts, Holy Names Music Center (call 326-9516).

Sunday

3 P.M. “Festival Finale: Bach and his Contemporaries,” soloists and the Bach Festival Orchestra, conducted by Gunther Schuller, St. John’s Cathedral. Preconcert lecture by Verne Windham: “A Whole Baroque World,” 2 p.m. (Only a few tickets remain.)
