Cfl Extends Relocation Deadline

The CFL has extended its deadline until Jan. 31 as to which teams are in and which are out for the 1996 season.

The league’s board of governors, in a conference call Thursday, agreed to the extension. That means questions concerning the U.S.-based clubs will linger for three more weeks.

The governors discussed the status of the Grey Cup champion Baltimore Stallions, the San Antonio Texans, the Shreveport Pirates’ proposed move to Norfolk, Va., as well as the Memphis Mad Dogs and Birmingham Barracudas.

The Stallions, looking for a new home since the Cleveland Browns’ proposed move to Baltimore, have discussed relocating with both Houston and Richmond, Va.

San Antonio owner Fred Anderson reportedly is reserving judgment on the fate of his team based on where Baltimore owner Jim Speros ends up. Anderson has said if the Stallions aren’t in Houston next season, the Texans will fold.
