Cigar Dominates Eclipse Awards

Compiled From Wire Services

Cigar’s perfect racing season got even better as owner Allen Paulson, trainer Bill Mott and jockey Jerry Bailey each won Eclipse Awards for outstanding achievement in thoroughbred racing in 1995.

For winning all 10 of his starts and a single-yearrecord $4,819,800, Cigar was named champion older male in a vote that could not have been less interesting: No other horse in the division received a mention from the National Turf Writers Association, Daily Racing Form or Thoroughbred Racing Associations, the three voting groups.

Cigar’s stable went along for the ride with Paulson earning his third Eclipse, Mott and Bailey their first.
