Itron Attracts Two Network Customers

Spokane-based Itron Inc. has signed a $150 million agreement with Duquesne Light Co. of Pittsburgh to provide energy information services.

The company also announced receipt of an order from Western Resources Inc. to provide an automatic meter reading system for Lawrence, Kan.

Under the Duquesne agreement, Itron will install, own and operate an automated meter-reading system throughout Duquesne’s 800-square-mile service territory, which includes Pittsburgh. Installation will begin in the first quarter of this year and will be completed in late 1997.

Western Resources is a diversified energy company with utilities operating in Kansas and Oklahoma that provide service to approximately 650,000 natural gas and 600,000 electric customers.

The Lawrence system is scheduled to be fully installed by the fourth quarter of 1996. Upon successful installation and operation of the system, Western Resources plans to expand the scope of the project to include 150,000 gas and electric meters in Wichita, Kan.
