Losing Control Of Car, Woman Kills Friend
A 78-year-old woman leaving church lost control of her car and drove up onto the sidewalk, killing a longtime friend she had been sitting next to just minutes earlier.
Mary Simmons, 71, was run down Sunday in front of the church rectory.
Police and witnesses refused to identify the driver.
The driver “just said the car accelerated, and she couldn’t control it,” Police Chief Ronald Glidden said.
She was not hurt. No immediate charges were filed.
