Defending Champs Tied

Compiled From Wire Services

Defending champions Renee Roca and Gorsha Sur tied rivals Elizabeth Punsalan and Jerod Swallow in the compulsory dance competition at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

The compulsories, worth 20 percent of total score, were the opening event for the senior level skaters. Punsalan and Swallow, the 1991 and ‘94 U.S. champions, took the first dance, the silver samba. Roca and Sur were first in the second portion, the Tango Romantica.
