Bill Protecting Gun Ranges Introduced

From Staff Reports

Rep. Jeff Alltus’ bill to protect shooting ranges when neighborhoods grow up around them was approved for introduction Wednesday by a unanimous committee vote.

Alltus, R-Coeur d’Alene, wants to make existing shooting ranges exempt from new noise ordinances, exempt them from criminal and civil liability over noise and prevent anyone from suing them over noise.

Rep. Marvin Vandenberg, D-Coeur d’Alene, seconded the motion to introduce the bill. “I think people have the knowledge when they build their houses that that’s in existence, and they should take that into consideration,” he said. “As they say, buyer beware.”

The House State Affairs Committee will schedule a hearing on the bill.
