Oregon State Hires Schuler

Compiled From Wire Services

At Corvallis, Ore., Oregon State, looking to expand and rev up an offense that was by far the worst in the Pac-10 last season, hired Denny Schuler as offensive coordinator.

Schuler, 49, served as offensive coordinator at California for three seasons before he and the rest of coach Keith Gilbertson’s staff were fired at the end of last season.

At Berkeley, Calif., Tom Holmoe, the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive-backs coach the past two seasons, was named Cal’s defensive coordinator under new coach Steve Mariucci.

At Tuscaloosa, Ala., coach Gene Stallings promoted Alabama receivers coach Woody McCorvey to replace Homer Smith as offensive coordinator.
