Classic Rock All Stars Take Stage At New Ugly Rumours

After nearly two years of construction, Ugly Rumours, the nightclub beneath the Mars Hotel, has finally opened its doors for business.

And tonight, the newest Spokane hot spot is staging quite a rock show. The Classic Rock All Stars, which performed last summer at Playfair Race Course, will take the elevated stage at 10 p.m.

For those of you who want soak in some nostalgia, you’d better hurry and purchase your tickets because, at press time, they were nearly sold out.

As you might have guessed by the band’s moniker, the Classic Rock All Stars are a super group of the genre, featuring members from such extinct dinosaurs as Iron Butterfly, Rare Earth and Sugarloaf.

With their respective bands, the four all-stars - drummer/vocalist Peter Rivera (Rare Earth), keyboardist/vocalist Jerry Corbetta (Sugarloaf), guitarist/vocalist Mike Pinera (Iron Butterfly and Blues Image) and bassist Dennis Noda (Cannibal and the Headhunters) - spawned 20 Top-10 hits, such as “Ride Captain Ride,” “I Just Wanna Celebrate,” “Tobacco Road” and “In A Gadda Da Vida.” Further, these musicians have sold an impressive 50 million albums between them.

In other words, the four have a deep well of classic nuggets from which to draw for tonight’s set.

The Classic Rock All Stars spend about half the year on the road, playing festivals, state fairs and casinos all over the world.

The band rarely performs at nightclubs, so don’t miss this show.

The Planet Lounge Orchestra opens at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at G&B or at the door.

Elsewhere in the night

Shoveljerk plays the Cotton Club in Hayden, Idaho, on Saturday.

Fans eager to snatch a copy of the Coeur d’Alene band’s major label debut, “Swarm,” have just a few weeks to wait. The album officially comes out on Feb. 13 on Capricorn Records.

In December, Shoveljerk embarked on a brief tour of the West coast with rising alterna-star Tripping Daisy. According to the band’s guitarist/vocalist Paul Hemenway, the response to Shoveljerk was excellent.

“It was kind of a morale booster for us,” said vocalist/guitarist Paul Hemenway. “It was a blast.”

No Way Out and High Lonesome open the show. Music starts at 9 p.m. The cover is $5.

Sunday’s Vince Neil concert at the Cotton Club has been canceled. Ticket-holders can get refunds at either the Cotton Club or from G&B Select-A-Seat.

The old road warrior/dinosaur rocker Blue Oyster Cult will return to Spokane on Jan. 30 for a concert at Outback Jack’s. Tickets are available at G&B outlets for $15. It’ll be $18 at the door.
