Chiefs See Five-Game Win Streak End In Swift Current

All good things, it’s said, come to an end. For the Spokane Chiefs, it was a five-game winning streak and three-season, eight-game string of success on this Central Division road swing.

Swift Current, ignited by a two-man-advantage power-play goal late in the first period, overwhelmed the Chiefs in the second en route to a 6-3 Western Hockey League victory in a battle of division leaders.

Craig Millar’s 18th goal launched a string of four straight goals for the Broncos as the Central Division leaders won for the fourth time in five games.

The West-leading Chiefs had won the first two games on their current trip and hadn’t lost to a Central team in these parts since the 1993-94 season. They won the last two games on their Central trip that year and swept all four last season.

Spokane plays in Medicine Hat tonight and in Lethbridge Sunday.

Trent Whitfield got the Chiefs started 60 seconds into the game, but by the time Darren Sinclair scored his 24th goal, and third in two games, 42 seconds into the third on a power play, Spokane was in a 4-1 hole.

Whitfield also collected his second goal of the game and 23rd of the season in the third period.
