Obituaries

Doris Davis Coeur d’Alene

Service for Doris Mable Davis, 81, will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Davis, who was born in South Dakota, died Wednesday.

She lived in North Dakota, Washington and Oregon before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1995.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Clark.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; two daughters, Raethel Cederbloom of Coeur d’Alene and Audrey Barr of Alaska; one stepson, Jack Davis of California; one stepdaughter, Alice Bohlman of Auburn, Wash.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Patrick Coffey Plummer, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Patrick C. Coffey, 74, will be today at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Burial will follow at the DeSmet Mission Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Coffey, an Alaskan Eskimo tribal member, died Wednesday.

He moved to DeSmet in the 1940s after serving with the Navy. He moved to Plummer four years ago.

Mr. Coffey had worked as a farmhand, miner and logger and served as the CETA program director for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe for two years.

He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Christine; two sons, Dennis Coffey of Spokane and Frederick Coffey of Arizona; four daughters, Rosemary Yuriar of California, Deborah McCoy and Margaret Coffey, both of DeSmet, and Carol Dohrman of Tensed, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Colleen Nees Kellogg

Service for Colleen L. Nees, 64, will be today at 1 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nees, a lifetime resident of the Silver Valley, died Wednesday.

She was a mother and homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Ludwig; two sons, Randy Carlson of Hayden, Idaho, and Dennis Carlson, of Pinehurst, Idaho; a daughter, Christy Reasor of Oregon; a stepdaughter, Kathy Davis of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Harold Montgomery Jr. of Pinehurst and Charles Hallen of Bridgeport, Wash.; one sister, Kathleen Pichler of Colville, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Luther Myser Spokane

A memorial service for Luther R. Myser, 72, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home, with cremation preceding.

Mr. Myser, who was born in Des Moines, Iowa, died Thursday.

He served in the Air Force during World War II.

He worked in the real estate field.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters, LuAnn Myser of Spokane and Patricia Ann Gowan of Renton, Wash.; two sons, Luther Myser of Coeur d’Alene and Daniel Myser of Spokane; one brother, Donald Myser of Meridian, Idaho; and eight grandchildren.

Wayne Gass Colfax, Wash.

Graveside service for Wayne Melvin Gass, 79, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today in the Colfax cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gass, a lifetime resident of Colfax, died Wednesday.

He graduated from Colfax High School in 1935 and worked at the S&S Grocery until World War II. During the war he worked for the Northwest Defense Foundry in Pullman. In 1945 he went to work for Brown and Holter Chevrolet. He retired in 1981.

His wife, Fern Gass, died in 1992.

Survivors include one son, Dwayne Gass of Colfax; two sisters, Bernice Green of Lynwood, Wash., and Betty Reynolds of Pullman; one brother, Harold Gass of Campbell, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Olive Mulvaney Moyie Springs, Idaho

Vigil service for Olive Z. Mulvaney, 64, will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry (Idaho) Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Bonners Ferry. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Mrs. Mulvaney, who was born in Kansas, died Wednesday.

In 1934 she moved to Bonners Ferry, where she attended school, graduating from Bonners Ferry High School.

She had lived in Bremerton and Seattle before permanently settling in Moyie Springs.

Mrs. Mulvaney worked as a cook for Evergreen School for 12 years and was also a waitress and seamstress.

She enjoyed woodworking, gardening, embroidering, cooking, and singing in the church choir. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Curley-Que’s Extension Club and the Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Bill; six children, Ellen Crooks of Fallon, Nev., Penny Pollard of Hauser Lake, Idaho, Betty Jones of Bonners Ferry, Pat Mulvaney of Naples, Idaho, Mike Mulvaney of Bonners Ferry and Katy Tucker of Everett; her mother, Ina Carrithers of Bonners Ferry; three sisters, Esther Woodward of Moyie Springs, Ellen Carrithers of Coeur d’Alene and Janice Eby of Bonners Ferry; 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Elizabeth Gieser Post Falls

Funeral Mass for Elizabeth Irene Gieser, 83, was held Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Gieser, who was born in Butte, Mont., died Wednesday.

She moved to Spokane 15 years ago and in 1988 moved to Post Falls.

She had worked as a psychiatric social worker for 20 years and also was a welfare worker.

Survivors include a brother, Frank Gieser of Anaheim, Calif.

Michael Johnson Spokane

Memorial service for Michael George Johnson, 31, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at the Free Methodist Church, Opportunity. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

He was a graduate of Shadle Park High School.

Survivors include his son, Jermey Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; his parents, Wilma and George Johnson of Usk, Wash.; and two sisters, Judith Mishler of Aurora, Colo., and Janet Bloom of Spokane.

F. Ellis Moyer Spokane

Service for F. Ellis Moyer, 82, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Moyer, who was born in Hepner, Ore., died Tuesday.

He was a retired farmer.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Ineda Moyer; one son, Frank Moyer of Rockford; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mabel Wallace Auburn, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Mabel F. Wallace, 89, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter Catholic Church in Spokane. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wallace, who was born in Rockford, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1930 and worked at Providence Hospital in Wallace. In 1945 she and her husband, Walter Wallace, became proprietors of Cliff Manor Nursing Home in Spokane, which they operated for 15 years.

In 1961 they retired to Santa Cruz, Calif. They returned to Spokane in 1974.

Her husband died in 1986, and Mrs. Wallace moved to Auburn in 1993.

Survivors include a son, Francis Wallace, and a daughter, Marcella Lisko, both of Auburn; a sister, Myrt Allen of Spokane; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Dr. Eldred Peacock Spokane

Service for Dr. Eldred Giles Peacock, 89, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today, at Westminster Congregational Church. Inurnment will precede in Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Peacock, who was born in India, died Sunday.

He graduated from Yakima High School, Washington State University and Harvard Medical School.

He was one of the original incorporators of the Inland Northwest Blood Center in Spokane and also served as president of the Medical Service Bureau.

After several years of practice in Spokane and St. Maries, he went to Boston for a fellowship at Lahey Clinic. He returned to Spokane and had a private practice until 1964. He then served as staff physician at Lakeland Village for three years, then at Edgecliff Tuberculosis Hospital for three years, until his retirement in 1970.

Dr. Peacock was a member of Westminster Congregational Church, St. Maries Masonic Lodge No. 63, the Scottish Rite and El Katif Shrine in Spokane, the South Spokane Shrine Club, The Spokane Gun Club, the Spokane Club, Downtown Kiwanis Club, the American Medical Association, and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Peacock; one son, John Peacock of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Frances Lauer of San Diego and Marjorie Whitten of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Irene ‘Maggie’ Johnson Kettle Falls, Wash.

Service for Irene I. “Maggie” Johnson, 90, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the Kettle Falls Community Church. Graveside service will follow at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls. Danekas Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Norway, died Saturday.

She came to the United States in 1908 and lived in the Portland area.

She ran a cattle operation with her husband, Ed Johnson, who died in 1971.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Kettle Falls Community Church, the Kettle River Grange, the Kettle Keepers Home Economics Club, the Kettle Falls Senior Citizens Club and the Oregon State University Alumni Association.

Her survivors include four daughters, Suzette Tucker of Coulee Dam, Joan Negu and Carol Roper both of Kettle Falls, and Nancy Anderson of Colville, Wash.; one son, Richard Hurst of Kettle Falls; one sister, Frances Dobbins of Lake Oswego, Ore.; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Larry Schlaht Spokane

A gathering of family and friends will be held in memory of Larry R. Schlaht, 50, at 2 p.m. today at 107 W. Queen. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Schlaht, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Modern Electric and Water Co. He also worked at the Mead Foundry.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Schlaht; two stepsons, Randy Tate and Rick Tate; one stepdaughter, Dawn Tate; his grandmother, Malinda Braman; four sisters, Connie Peterson of Montesano, Wash., Venetta Farmer and Jenny Klassen, both of Spokane, and Crystal Wallace of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Raymond Schlaht of Kent, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Lyle Ferguson Spokane

A memorial service for Lyle A. Ferguson, 79, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today in the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel. Heritage Funeral Home Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ferguson, born in Dycusburg, Ky., died Monday.

He served in the Navy during World War II and worked at Clark Equipment before retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Maretta Ferguson; one daughter, Maretta Swoboda of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Paula Hoofnagle Spokane

Service for Paula Christine Hoofnagle, 41, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Gretna Green Chapel, 1403 N. Washington. Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Washington.

Mrs. Hoofnagle, who was born in Seattle, died Dec. 30.

She had worked at Dorian Studio.

Survivors include her husband, Kevin Hoofnagle of Spokane; one son, Chris Bronowski of Merrillville, Ind.; her mother, Connie Placek of Everett; and two sisters, Sara Lynch of Everett and Laura Rhodes of San Francisco.

William Johnson Spokane

Graveside service for William C. Johnson, 77, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

He retired from American Linen as sales manager in 1980.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Mr. Johnson’s survivors include his wife, Nelma Johnson; one daughter, Muriel Harmer of Spokane; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pauline Johnson Spokane

A graveside service for Pauline H. Johnson, 91, is scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Milbank, S.D., died Tuesday.

She moved to the Yakima area in the 1930s and then to Spokane in 1951.

She was a teacher.

She was a member of Fourth Memorial Church.

Her husband, Edwin Johnson, died in 1968.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Irene Hamilton of Vancouver, Wash., and Helen Hamilton of Canton, S.D.

Bertha Rux Reardan, Wash.

A memorial service for Bertha L. Rux, 90, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., with cremation preceding services.

Mrs. Rux, who was born in Edwall, Wash., died Tuesday.

She was a member of the Mondovi Grange and the Rebekah Lodge.

Her husband, Harold Rux, died in 1987.

Survivors include a son, Robert Rux of Reardan; two brothers, M.J. Koegler of Davenport, Wash., and Allen Koegler of Colbert; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lance Orton Sr. Spokane

A graveside service for Lance L. Orton Sr. is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Orton, 71, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

He was retired from Eastern Washington University as director of energy.

He was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 2.

Mr. Orton’s survivors include one son, Lance Orton Jr. of Deer Park; one daughter, Janice Rowe of Lynnwood, Wash.; one sister, Ruth Jones of Montesano, Wash.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Pickelsimer Arlington, Wash.

A memorial service for Phyllis June Pickelsimer, 83, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Regency Care Center in Arlington. Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home of Marysville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pickelsimer, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Jan. 10.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Wiles and Susan Barr, both of California; one stepdaughter, Judy Pearson of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren.

Janette Grimes Priest River, Idaho

Service for Janette Grimes, 69, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Priest River Southern Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Grimes, who was born in Oklahoma, died Monday.

She lived in California before moving to Priest River in 1967.

She worked as a licensed vocational nurse and worked at area hospitals, including Bonner General, Deaconess Medical Center and Newport.

Ms. Grimes was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was voted Mother of the Year while living in California.

Survivors include a son, Robert Dewbre of Priest River; two daughters, Janell Tibbetts of Newport, Wash., and Sandy Carson of Yakima; two brothers, Donald and Larry Baze, both of California; four sisters, Luedna, Betty Ruth and Evelyn, all of California, and Charlotte of Yakima; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Albion Historical Society.
