Riot Breaks Out After Guards Find Tunnel

Guards at a prison that houses several Cali drug cartel kingpins fired tear gas Friday to quell a riot by inmates who tried to escape, authorities said.

Last week, a drug kingpin escaped from the same Bogota prison. Seven guards were charged with helping Jose Santacruz Londono escape.

On Friday, other guards discovered a hidden tunnel and were attacked by 30 inmates. Several guards suffered injuries.

The prisoners then fled into the tunnel, but officials sounded the alarm and rounded them up after firing tear gas.
