Former major leaguer Glenn Davis was awarded $1.6 million in a lawsuit stemming from a fight in which his jaw was broken by a nightclub bouncer in Richmond, Va. Davis’ jaw was shattered in the altercation and required extensive reconstructive surgery. He still has a metal plate in his face. … Veteran football coaches Bill Singler and Barry Wilson have joined the Oregon State offensive coaching staff. Wilson, 50, will split duties with Todd Spencer as an offensive line coach. Singler’s duties haven’t been determined.

Texas Christian officials are applauding the state for fining a sports agent $16,500 for funneling money to Horned Frogs running back Andre Davis. The fine was part of a settlement between Jeffrey R. Newport and the Texas secretary of state Antonio Garza, who registers and regulates sports agents. … WBO super flyweight champion Johnny Tapia of Albuquerque, N.M., was given supervised probation but no jail time for assaulting his wife last year. The unbeaten 28-year-old boxer pleaded guilty in October to charges of assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute last summer at the couple’s former residence in Albuquerque.
