Major action in the state Legislature this week includes:

MONDAY

1:30 p.m., Senate Hearing Room 3, Senate Higher Education Committee hearing on SB 6314 to tie increases in tuition to growth in statewide income.

3:30 p.m., House Hearing Room A, House Appropriations Committee work session on changing enrollment standards for the state Basic Health Plan.

6:30 p.m., Senate Hearing Room 4, House and Senate Education committees joint hearing on Initiative 173, providing parents with vouchers to help pay private school tuition, and Initiative 177, creating publicly-funded, privately-run charter schools.

TUESDAY

8 a.m., Senate Hearing Room 1, Senate Government Operations Committee hearing on SB 6420 to prohibit state employees from flying first-class.

10 a.m., House Hearing Room E, House Corrections Committee hearing on HB 2521 to limit the authority of local government to block work-release facilities.

1:30 p.m., House Hearing Room A, House Education Committee hearing on HJR 4217 to end the requirement of a 60 percent vote to approve school levies.

1:30 p.m., House Hearing Room D, House Capital Budget Committee work session on privately operated prisons.

1:30 p.m., House Hearing Room E, Hearing on welfare reform, including HB 2471 to require welfare recipients to take and pay for parenting classes.

1:30 p.m. Senate Hearing Room 4, Senate Labor Commerce and Trade Committee hearing on SB 6478 to increase the state minimum wage.

WEDNESDAY

8 a.m., House Hearing Room B, House Commerce and Labor committee hearing on HB 2364 to authorize video lottery terminals.

1:30 p.m., House Hearing Room A, House Law and Justice committee hearing on HB 2616 to charge juveniles who use a firearm during a crime as adults.

THURSDAY

8 a.m., Senate Hearing Room 4, Senate Human Services and Corrections Committee hearing on SB 6285 to disclose inmate HIV test results to prison staff.

10 a.m., House Hearing Room D, House Capital Budget Committee hearing on projects not included in the governor’s capital budget, including the expansion of the Riverpoint Higher Education Park in Spokane.

10 a.m., Senate Hearing Room 4, Senate Health and Long Term Care Committee hearing on SB 5596 to regulate doctor-assisted suicide.

1:30 p.m., House Hearing Room D, House Trade and Economic Development Committee hearing on HB 2672 to ban greyhound racing.

FRIDAY

8 a.m., House Hearing Room A, House Law and Justice Committee hearing on HB 2265 to require parental notification for minors seeking abortions, and two other abortion bills.

8 a.m., Senate Hearing Room 1, Senate Education Committee hearing on four bills to allow a simple majority to pass school levies.

10 a.m., House Hearing Room E, House Corrections committee hearing on HB 2574 to require a person convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor to register as a sex offender.
