Frenchman Wins First World Cup
France’s Sebastien Amiez, one of the season’s most consistent slalom skiers, rallied for his first World Cup victory, in 1 minute, 38.79 seconds in Voysennaz, Switzerland.
Unheralded Rene Mlekuz of Slovenia, who raced 64th, was second at 1:39.16.
In Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, Austrian Anita Wachter overcame Katja Seizinger’s big first-run lead and won the giant slalom race to vault to the top of the World Cup overall standings.
Wachter, the World Cup champion in 1993, rallied from third to her first victory of the season with a time of 2:37.74, for the two runs down the Olimpia Tofane course.
