Free Class Offered In Outdoor Safety

From Staff And Wire Reports

The death of a Rathdrum snowboarder last year and reports of out-of-bounds skiers this year have prompted a group of back-country ski experts to offer a free class on outdoor safety today.

Chic Burge, an assistant instructor at the Spokane Mountaineers Mountain School, and skiers from the Shred Shed, Vertical Earth and Peak Adventures will teach about winter clothing, equipment, emergency gear, hypothermia, food and water, avalanche awareness, first aid and rescue techniques.<

“There are a lot of people out there who don’t have a clue what to do in the woods,” Burge said. “But they go anyway.”

The class will meet in North Idaho College’s Bonner Room at 6:30 p.m.
