Trammell Signs For Another Year

Compiled From Wire Services

Alan Trammell, who has spent his entire 19-year career with the Detroit Tigers, will be back for another year.

Trammell, 38, became a free agent for the third consecutive year when the Tigers decided not to offer him a contract before last month’s deadline. But, he made it clear then that he had no intention of playing elsewhere.

The club didn’t release terms of the latest deal, but said it guaranteed Trammell an unspecified relationship with the Tigers once his playing days end.

Infielders Leo Gomez and Bret Barberie signed contracts with the Chicago Cubs’s Triple-A Iowa affiliate and will attend major-league spring training as non-roster players.

Gomez, 29, appeared in 53 games for Baltimore in 1995 and batted .236 with four homers and 12 RBIs. Barberie, a 28-year-old switch hitter, has played in the majors with Montreal, Florida and Baltimore.

Dave Nilsson and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a one-year contract for the 1996 season. Terms weren’t disclosed.
