Skater’s Brother Ruled Insane

Compiled From Wire Services

The delusional brother of Olympic ice dancer Elizabeth Punsalan Swallow admitted killing their father but was found innocent by reason of insanity.

Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Thomas Janas also found Ricardo Punsalan, 22, a risk to harm others and ordered him recommitted to the state’s maximum-security psychiatric hospital in Dayton.

Punsalan Swallow won a gold medal in last week’s U.S. championships. She did not attend the trial.

Psychiatrist, Dr. Phillip Resnick, the lone witness in the trial, said he was convinced that Punsalan was not faking when he explained the slaying by saying he was Jesus Christ and had been ordered by God to kill his father. The younger Punsalan believed his father was Satan.
