German Theater Producer Dies

Ruth Berghaus, one of Germany’s most important theater and opera producers, has died of cancer at the age of 68, the Berlin Academy of Art said Friday.

As director of the Berliner Ensemble from 1971-77, Berghaus left a lasting mark by bringing the work of young writers such as Heiner Mueller to the stage.
