Infrequent Winner Leonard Leads Pack At Phoenix Open

Justin Leonard pulled away from a logjam atop the leaderboard with two birdies in the last four holes and took a two-shot lead after three rounds of the Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Leonard, a non-winner his two previous years on the Tour, had an eagle during his 5-under-par round of 66 to finish 54 holes at 13-under 200.

Don Pooley, Tom Scherrer and Phil Mickelson were tied for second at 202, with second-round leader Woody Austin, Jesper Parnevik and Kenny Perry at 204.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot 74 for a three-day total of 69-72-74- 215, 2-over-par.

At Singapore, South African Ernie Els has a one-stroke lead with an impressive finish in the second round at the Johnnie Walker Classic.

Els finished with a birdie-eagle that gave him his second straight 67. He had a 134 total, 8-under-par at the 7,001-yard Tanah Merah Country Club.
