Spotted Horse Helps EV Win Again

Another league win, another starring role for James Spotted Horse. Spotted Horse scored 30 points and sealed a win with free throws for the second consecutive night as East Valley edged visiting Cheney 67-64 on Saturday.

EV (5-9, 2-4), which broke a 24-game league loss streak by edging Colville on Friday, made 7 of 7 free throws in the second half to hold off the charging Blackhawks (4-9, 2-4).

Tucker Urdahl of Cheney rimmed a 3-point attempt as time ran out.

Christine Reagan’s offensive rebound and putback with 3 seconds left allowed the ninth-ranked Blackhawks (12-2, 6-0) to escape with a win over the Knights (7-7, 2-4).

Cheney won its 11th straight game overall and its 16th straight in league play.

EV opened with a 12-1 lead. Cheney fought back and led 51-49 before Farrah Parsley’s basket for East Valley tied the score with 29 seconds left.

Parsley had 12 rebounds and teammate Linsay Porter 10 assists. Reagan had 10 rebounds and Anna Getz eight assists for Cheney.

Postponements

Pullman at Riverside

Wintery conditions forced postponement of the Greyhounds’ boys and girls games at Chattaroy against the Rams. No makeup dates were announced.

Colville at Clarkston

Snow also wiped out the Indians’ boys and girls games at Clarkston, which has postponed four league games and hasn’t played in more than two weeks.

Prep wrestling

Deer Park and Medical Lake did their best to catch league champion Lakeside during the Northeast A subdistrict meet at Freeman.

The NEA’s top two wrestlers in each weight class were already seeded into next Saturday’s District 7-A/B meet at Ritzville. Lakeside had 10 wrestlers with byes, DP and ML five apiece.

At the subdistrict, with three more district spots up for grabs in each weight group, DP and ML picked up 12 apiece. Lakeside earned eight more berths, giving the Eagles 18 to district - one more than DP and ML.

Individual champions Kyle Bauer (129 pounds) and Andy Hilzer (158) led Ritzville to 182 points and a one-point win over league champion Liberty at the Bi-County championships at Liberty.

Liberty’s winners were Chris Schuessler (101), Al Widman (168), Jake Tee (275) and unbeaten Jon Mackay (190). Davenport placed third with 155 points, topped by champs Jason Schneider (178) and Dan Murphy (215).

College wrestling

Pins by Josh Morton (150) and Mark Janke (158) launched top-ranked North Idaho College to a 28-9 NJCAA win over visiting and fifth-ranked Ricks College at Coeur d’Alene.

Jason Moaney (167) of the Cardinals beat Kris West 9-7 after falling behind 7-1. NIC sealed the meet with wins by Josh Clausen (177) and Orlando Jordan (190).
