Baptist University To Lift Dancing Ban

Compiled From Wire Services

It’s time to boogie at Baylor.

The nation’s largest Baptist university is lifting a ban on dancing beginning in the spring. Some of the school’s 12,000 students already are talking about holding a campus party.

“We have aerobic dancing in Baptist churches and dance routines at athletic events,” Baylor president Robert Sloan said Friday. “Dancing can be, and is when properly done, a very wholesome activity.”

The school, founded 151 years ago, has never allowed dancing in accordance with Baptist principles. But it has operated independently since breaking away in 1991 from control by the Baptist General Convention.
