Haley Gets One For Thumb; May Work On Other Hand

Associated Press

Dallas defensive end Charles Haley got a Super Bowl ring for the thumb.

And he’s talking like he might try to add to his Super Bowl record for jewelry by playing for the Cowboys again next year.

“I’m going to talk to the doctors and see what’s going to happen if I do it,” said Haley, who underwent back surgery seven weeks ago.

“I’m going to Hawaii and hang out. My back did get sore. I’m 32 years old and I’ve got to look past this some day and be able to play with my kids. But this is something I love. If there is a chance of me playing, I probably will,” he said.

Haley had a sack Sunday in the Cowboys’ 27-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was his 11th sack in postseason play, second-best in NFL history.

Haley has never worn any of his Super Bowl rings, but says the custom is about to change.

“I’m going to wear this one because it means so much to me,” said Haley, who retired and unretired at one point in the season. “It’s just a great feeling to endure all that I endured the season and get a ring.”
