The Slice The Slice Takes A Quick Stab At Playing Rural Matchmaker

After we asked how Inland Northwest bachelor farmers met women, we received a letter from a local woman who wanted to know where she could run a personal ad in the hopes of meeting those rural guys. We suggested The Slice.

Here goes: She’s a 5-foot-8 former ranch wife in her early 40s who loves country life and believes in hard work. She says she’s a great cook and describes herself as intelligent, organized, sexually playful and kind. She likes animals, reading, movies and yard sales. She would like to meet a financially secure man in good health who is a bit taller than she is. And living in the country is a must.

OK guys, it’s your turn. Send responses to The Slice, marked “Personal Ad.” We will forward them unopened to our mystery woman.

Stay tuned.

Slice answers: Vegetarian Becky O’Grady became a customer for life at the Longhorn Barbecue Burger Stop when the manager cheerfully made her a great meatless sandwich.

Peggy Wold wrote to Cafe Roma after a disappointing dining experience. And the owner showed up at her door with a bottle of wine and an apology. She accepted.

Nervous flyer Diana Taylor has had a special place in her heart for Horizon Air ever since a flight attendant responded to her fear with sensitivity and compassion.

Jim Christensen has been bullish on Eagle Hardware ever since a plumbing department manager fixed his sprinkler for free with hard-to-find parts even though Christensen had purchased it elsewhere.

The list goes on. Among other businesses that readers raved about for various reasons are Mechanic’s Pride, Super Save Drug Center, the I.G.A. in Pullman, Ari Diamonds, Espresso Delizioso, the Taco Time across from NorthTown, Garb Age, J.C. Penney, Michaels on Trent, Safeway at Lincoln Heights, Northwest Gourmet, Costco’s optical department, Safeway on Hamilton, Dania, Perfection Tire in Post Falls, Les Schwab, Super One in Coeur d’Alene and U.S. Bank.

Inland Northwest trading cards: One reader said the theme ought to be “Businesses gone bust.”

But Pam Galloway suggested “Scenic rivers, lakes and streams.”

And Linda Willard offered “Double Bubble Bloomsday Cards” and “Politically Correct Blame No Gender Fender Bender Cards.”

Today’s Slice question: Who is the area’s most talented channel surfer?
