Dollar Falls, Except Against Yen
The dollar fell against most major currencies Monday amid uncertainty about the fate of a single currency in Europe and whether the U.S. Federal Reserve is about lower interest rates again.
Without any economic data for further guidance, traders dumped their dollars for safer currencies, such as the German mark. That helped the dollar fall against the mark and edge up against the Japanese yen.
By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar bought 1.4830 marks, compared with 1.4912 marks Friday. The dollar ended at 106.75 yen, up from 106.67 yen.
