Microsoft And Wal-Mart Cut Deal

Compiled From Wire Services

Wal-Mart shoppers could avoid traipsing through giant stores and standing in check-out lines if they use an on-line shopping venture the company nation’s largest retailer is planning with Microsoft Corp.

Wal-Mart Stores spokesman Jay Allen said Monday from the company’s headquarters that Wal-Mart hoped to offer the service this spring.

“People who have access to (the) Internet would be able to shop at Wal-Mart on-line a lot like they shop at a Wal-Mart,” Allen said. “We will have a full line, a full complement of products - automotive, books, ladies’ and men’s wear - it will be a full complement of departments. The customer will have the opportunity just as they do in the store to shop in those departments on-line.”

Allen said Microsoft would provide the software know-how, but the system won’t be limited to shoppers using Microsoft software.
