Red Sox Pull Trigger On Deal With Phillies For Reliever Slocumb

Compiled From Wire Services

Philadelphia and Boston made a long-anticipated trade Monday, with the Red Sox acquiring closer Heathcliff Slocumb.

The Phillies get outfielder Lee Tinsley.

As part of the deal, the Phillies also received outfielder Glenn Murray and pitcher Ken Ryan. They sent outfielder Rick Holifield and pitcher Larry Wimberly to the Red Sox.

The principals in the trade have been known for weeks, but the Red Sox held out for Wimberly before they would make the deal. Slocumb, 29, had 32 saves last year, fourth best in the National League.

At Seattle, the six-member board set up to oversee ballpark construction and operation unanimously selected local architectural firm NBBJ to design a new retractible-roof stadium for the Mariners.

Free agent Pedro Munoz, who hit a career-high 18 home runs last season for Minnesota, signed a one-year contract with Oakland.

The A’s also claimed right-handed pitcher Aaron Small on waivers from Seattle.

Minnesota signed former Montreal outfielder Roberto Kelly to a minor league contract and invited him to major league spring training camp.
