Mathieu Schneider scored at 2:19 of overtime as the New York Islanders gave rookie goaltender Eric Fichaud a win in his NHL debut with a dramatic 5-4 decision over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Pat LaFontaine’s second goal of the game for New York tied the score with 4.2 seconds left in regulation. With goalie Dominik Hasek pulled for a sixth attacker, LaFontaine found a loose puck in the lower right circle and backhanded a shot that tucked under the crossbar.
