Compiled From Wire Services

Terry Labonte won his third straight Lysol 200 NASAR Busch Grand National stock car race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

Labonte, driving a Chevrolet, held off Todd Bodine for a narrow .66-second victory in the 200-mile race on the 2.45-mile track, the only road course on the NASCAR Grand National circuit. In addition to winning the event for the third straight year, Labonte won the race for the fourth time in its six-year existence.

Mike McLaughlin finished third, with Bobby Labonte and David Green completing a Chevrolet sweep of the top five. Spokane’s Chad Little was eighth and collected $7,355.

Gil de Ferran held off a determined challenge by Alex Zanardi to win the Cleveland Grand Prix.

The 28-year-old Brazilian took the lead when Zanardi, an Indy-car rookie who earned his first victory the previous week at Portland, had to stop for a splash of fuel with 11 laps left in the 90-lap event.

It was a red-letter day for the blue-and-white Williams team but a dark day for the red Ferraris.

Damon Hill captured the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours after two-time defending champion and pole position Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari blew an engine on the warmup lap.
