A woman convicted of marijuana possession two years ago was the only black chosen for the 12-person jury in Michael Irvin’s drug possession trial.

The only other minority on the six-male, six-female jury is an Asian female. Both alternates are women, one a black.

“This is not a jury of his peers,” argued defense attorney Ron Goranson. “This is not going to bode well for the community.”

Newly crowned International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion Michael Moorer was formally accused of creating a disturbance at a social club early Sunday. The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. in Monessen, which is 25 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Two University of Miami football players suspended for taking part in the assault of a track star have been arrested. Linebackers James Burgess, 25, and Jeremy Taylor, 22, surrendered to police and were ordered by a judge to wear electronic bracelets until the trial so authorities can monitor their movements.

Coach Tommy West permanently dismissed two players from the Clemson football team after they were charged last week with intent to distribute marijuana - Antwuan Wyatt, one of the country’s top return men, and running back Anthony Downs.
