County And Residents Agree On Playground Plan For Orchard Avenue Park

Neighbors at Orchard Avenue Park have accepted plans to install playground equipment.

Those plans now include a rail fence to protect children from traffic at Park and Bridgewater. That agreement was reached at a meeting Monday between about a dozen residents and parks officials.

“There were some misconceptions. We resolved them to most everyone’s satisfaction, I think,” said Wyn Birkenthal, director of the county parks and recreation.

Neighbors had been concerned that the playground was too close to the heavily traveled intersection. Some of them had misinterpreted preliminary markings at the park. The marks showed an open space around the equipment, not the equipment itself.

“I give tribute to Wyn for saying this is a nice piece of property and let’s fix it up,” said resident Nancy Mahoney.

Installation of the donated equipment will take place in the next week or two, Birkenthal said.
