Tourney Matches 10 Teams

Spokane’s AAA American Legion baseball teams will see some new faces this week when they play in the Senior Fourth of July Tournament.

The five Spokane teams meet the five visitors in the four-day tournament beginning at 10:30 a.m. this morning. The visitors are Prairie Cardinals of Post Falls and Rathdrum, the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen, the Tacoma Knights, the Redmond Black Sox and the Lynwood (Wash.) Shockers.

Games are at Shadle Park’s Jackson Field and at Whitworth College’s Merkel Field.

Each visiting team will play one game against each Spokane team. The teams with the two best records will play for the championship Sunday at 1:30 at Jackson Field.

The five Spokane teams are the North Stars, Blue Devils, Royals, Spokane Valley Cannons and Browne’s Mountain Bandits.

The first-day schedule for the AAA tournament is:

CdA vs. Royals, AKJ, 10:30 a.m.; Prairie Cardinals vs. Bandits, Whit, Blue Devils vs. CdA, AKJ, 1 p.m.; Cardinals vs. Cannons, Whit, Redmond vs. Blue Devils, AKJ, 3:30; Redmond vs. North Stars, AKJ, Tacoma vs. Cannons, Whit, 6 p.m.; North Stars vs. Lynwood, AKJ, 8:30.

Tyson Deal’s two-run single Wednesday highlighted a five-run third inning and led the Royals over the Bandits 8-4 in AAA Legion baseball at Jackson Field.

Deal finished with three RBIs. The Bandits scored all of their runs in the first, on three walks, a hit batter and Brandon Molette’s RBI double. Molette was 3 for 4.

John Wall threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one, as Whitman County beat Spokane Athletic Supply 4-0 in an AA Legion game at Central Valley.
