Exile Pilot To Get His License Back

Compiled From Wire Services

A Cuban exile pilot grounded following a deadly encounter with Cuban MiGs will get his wings back this fall.

A judge denied a Federal Aviation Administration attempt to suspend Jose Basulto’s license indefinitely.

He’ll get his pilot’s license back in October after a 150-day suspension imposed late Friday night by an administrative law judge with the National Transportation Safety Board. Basulto called the ruling justified.

Basulto, founder of Miami-based Brothers to the Rescue, was accused of violating Cuban airspace on Feb. 24 when Cuban MiGs shot down two Brothers planes over the Florida Straits, killing four people.

Basulto’s plane escaped without incident. Basulto denies going into Cuban airspace.
