Dellwo Replacement List Narrows To Three

From Staff Reports

The Spokane County Democratic Central Committee has picked three potential replacements for the 3rd District House seat vacated by Dennis Dellwo.

Spokane County commissioners were set Tuesday to interview Lonnie Sparks, Jeff Gombosky and Val Smith and make their pick for the new legislator.

But only Smith showed up.

The other two apparently missed the interviews because of short notice. The commissioners rescheduled the interviews to 3 p.m. Monday.

Sparks, a Spokane attorney, received 61 votes from the central committee when Democrats voted on Dellwo’s replacement Monday night.

Gombosky, who directs the Institute of Neighborhood Leadership for the Northeast Community Center, received 33 votes.

Val Smith, a former Lutheran Social Services executive, received 15 votes.

County commissioners will pass their recommendation on to Gov. Mike Lowry. The governor’s choice will have to run for election in November.
