Teacher Reported To Ethics Board

From Staff And Wire Reports

A possible ethics violation by a high school teacher has been reported to state officials by the Kellogg School District.

The teacher, Mark Holzer, resigned June 25. On Monday he cited personal reasons for his departure from the district after 12 years. He would not comment further.

Larry Curry, Kellogg superintendent of schools, confirmed that he had turned over some information about Holzer to the Professional Standards Commission. He said he could not elaborate for legal reasons.

The commission investigates ethics complaints against teachers. That can trigger a letter of reprimand, or the suspension or revocation of an Idaho teaching certificate.

Without the certificate, a teacher can’t work in Idaho public schools and is unlikely to find work in another state.

The commission’s executive committee meets quarterly to consider cases, according to commission administrator Roger Hanshew. That means Holzer’s case will be heard at its next meeting in late September.

Holzer taught physical education and has done a lot of coaching, including football, basketball and track, said Curry.

Holzer resigned as girls’ basketball coach this year after one season at that job.
