Crematorium Mixed Up Ashes, Must Pay $1 Million

Associated Press

A jury awarded $1 million to 16 people who sued a crematorium for mixing the ashes of their relatives, dumping extra ashes in existing graves and failing to return all the ashes.

The jury still is deciding awards for 46 other people who also sued Pleasant Hill Cemetery Inc., alleging it mishandled their relatives’ remains from 1977 to 1979.

The awards ranged from $10,000 to $175,000 each.
