Federal Grants Awarded Groups Aiding Homeless

From Staff Reports

Two North Idaho groups providing shelter for the homeless received more than $43,000 in federal grants this week.

St. Vincent de Paul in Coeur d’Alene received $28,000. The Bonner County Homeless Task Force received $15,180, according to the Idaho Housing and Finance Association.

A total of $287,850 was distributed throughout Idaho, based on competitive grant applications. The program is administered by the Idaho Housing Agency in conjunction with the Idaho Homeless Coordination Network.

The program not only provides temporary shelter, but helps families “learn marketable skills towards a goal of long-term self-sufficiency,” said Rod Beck, executive director of the Idaho Housing and Finance Association.
