Flood Woes Continue To Plague China
Rain-swollen tributaries of the Yangtze River overflowed their banks and breached dikes in central China, drowning at least 102 people, an official report said Friday.
Since seasonal storms began in late June, more than 600 people have died in flooding across 11 provinces and regions, according to government offices and Red Cross chapters in China and Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Red Cross estimates more than 43 million people have been injured or suffered property damage in six provinces alone. About 22 million acres of farmland have been destroyed.
