It’s Really A Grand Old Flag Letter Of The Week: From July 3

When I see Old Glory waving in the wind, my heart does a leap for joy and pride. There are few who stop and think that our flag and free country came into being because of the deaths and sacrifices of George Washington’s army. It seems that those things are not taught anymore.

Since then, Old Glory has been carried by our fighting men in all of the wars and battles as we fought to preserve our freedom and this beloved land.

Few, if any, can conceive that there have been times an enemy had every intention and nearly the capability to displace our people and become citizens here instead of us. Because we were God-fearing and loved our land and people, with our flag for inspiration, we turned that all around and proudly planted her wherever victory took us.

We don’t sing those old patriotic songs about our flag and our land very often, but we should. Then we should fly our flag with pride, because she is an expression of our free inner spirit.

As long as our flag remains, she is an assurance of our freedom, even for those who would desecrate her or those who would not salute her. Robert R. Root Spirit Lake, Idaho
