Robert Halsey Spokane

Graveside service for Robert Howard Halsey, 73, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Halsey, a 49-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Hussar, Alberta.

He moved to Creston, Wash., when he was 8, and graduated from high school in Seattle.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam and during the Korean War, he served in the Navy Reserve.

He worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses.

Mr. Halsey was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 45 and bowled with Young at Heart bowling league.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lois Halsey; a son, Richard Halsey of Libby, Mont.; two daughters, Pamela Halsey-Al-Malik of Spokane, and Marcia Jenkins of Bothell, Wash.; two sisters and two brothers, and five grandchildren.

Howard Springer Helmer, Idaho

Private family service for Howard C. Springer, 86, will be held at a later date. Shorts Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Springer, who was born in Indiana, died Thursday.

He grew up in Montana and worked in the apple orchards at a young age. He later worked in Hamilton, Mont., as a lumber jack and logging truck driver from 1937-42.

He served in the Army with the 184th Infantry, 7th Division in the Aleutian Islands and received his jungle training in Hawaii and fought at Marshall Islands and the Philippines.

After his military discharge in 1945, he returned to Hamilton and worked as a truck driver. In 1956, he moved to a ranch near Helmer and raised cattle and hay.

Mr. Springer worked at a pole plant and later for J.R. Simplot, retiring after 15 years in 1972.

He was past commander of the Hamilton Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Deary, Idaho.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruth; daughter, Kathy Buswell of Moscow; stepson, Claude Halseth of Helmer; two sisters, Ruth Haupt of Deary, and Myrtle Privett of Roy, Wash.; brother, Ralph Springer of Hamilton; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Geneva Peters Spokane

Memorial service for Geneva Alice Peters, 85, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Peters, who was born in Sidney, Iowa, died Wednesday.

A resident of Spokane for 16 years, she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, William Peters, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Eyre of Aurora, Colo., and Donita McKanna of Arvada, Colo.; a brother, Richard Duff of Spokane; a sister, Judy Esterling of Concord, Calif.; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Earl Harold Greenacres

Memorial service for Earl Harold, 73, is set for 2 p.m. today at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Private inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harold died Wednesday.

He was born in Hartline, Wash., and graduated from high school there.

He married Evelyn Havens in 1949 in the Spokane Valley.

He was a dairyman for 40 years and also worked for Sacred Heart Medical Center in the housekeeping department for 25 years. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Greenacres Grange.

Mr. Harold is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mary Thomas of Spokane; three sons, Steven Harold of Edmonton, Alberta, Michael Harold of Wallace, Idaho, and David Harold of Spokane; a brother, Norman Harold of Greenacres, and eight grandchildren.

Carol ‘Lynne’ Schuster Spokane

Service for Carol “Lynne” Schuster, 59, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Schuster, who was born in Wenatchee, died Thursday.

She graduated from Lake Chelan (Wash.) High School and from the secretarial studies program at Washington State University.

She married Lee Schuster in 1958 in Pasco.

In 1988, Mrs. Schuster was involved in bringing back the Miss Spokane Scholarship Program, an official Miss America preliminary. She served as the executive director of the program for the past eight years. She retired from Goodwill Industries public relations department in April.

She was also a lilac director with the Spokane Lilac Festival for 10 years, a member of the Cougar Club since 1955, and a member of St. Aloysius Parish.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Kellie Raftis of Everett, Wash.; a sister, Corrine Rogers of Fairfield, Calif., and two grandsons.
