Official Was Asked To Help Bomb School

A man is accused of asking his congressman to help him out - by blowing up a school building.

Richard Gallagher told police he thought Rep. Peter King “was one of the boys” and would go along with the plan for $2,000, Nassau County Deputy Inspector Anthony Vessa said Tuesday.

King, however, called police. “It’s bizarre,” he said.

Vessa said the intoxicated Gallagher, drinking at a pub with a friend, called the congressman late Monday at his home in Seaford.

Gallagher allegedly offered King $2,000 if he would help blow up the Herricks High School administration building.

“He was very calm. He didn’t seem drunk,” King said.

King said he had never seen or heard of Gallagher before and was concerned about the call because his phone number is unlisted.

The congressman set up a meeting at the bar, and two detectives were sent in his place, Vessa said.

The inspector said Gallagher had a grudge against the school since he was fired from a custodian’s job there about a year ago.

Gallagher, 40, was charged with aggravated harassment, Vessa said.
