Ryan Hemingway Picked For Student Who’s Who

Ryan Hemingway has been selected to appear in Who’s Who Among American High School Students 1996. Only 5 percent of all high school students nationwide receive this annual award. The son of Terry and Elaine Hemingway, he is a 1996 graduate of Freeman High School.

Leon J. Radziemski, dean of the Washington State University College of Sciences, has been elected vice chair of the Washington Technology Center.

Sarah Anne Hille, Spokane, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Washington. She graduated cum laude with majors in political science and communications.

The dental assisting program at Spokane Community College received $6,386 from Washington Dental Service Foundation to purchase equipment for its clinic.

Alison Olzendam, principal of Chase Middle School, has been awarded a scholarship by the Rachel Royston Permanent Scholarship Foundation of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Leeann Reeves, a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher, also received a scholarship from the Rachel Royston Permanent Scholarship Foundation.

The Spokane Falls Community College art department announced the recipients of several awards.

Fall quarter, 1995 Portfolio Awards: Shane McSpadden and Beatriz Macias.

Spring quarter, 1996 Portfolio Awards: Liliya Gerasimchuk and Denise Bowles.

1995-96 Art Exhibit Awards: Beatriz Macias, Jeff Gibson-Smith and Dylan Meissner.

The Richard England Foundation Award: Tim Oberst.

Robert Dirks, a 1996 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, is one of three students from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho named by USA Today as an All-USA High School Academic Team Honorable Mention. He was selected outstanding male graduate of his class.

Lindsey Hagen, a fifth-grade honor roll student at Balboa Elementary, received the “Principal’s Leadership Award” for the 1995-96 school year. The award is sponsored by YWCA Camp Reed. She is entitled to one free week at the camp. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Colleen Hagen, Spokane.

Kenny Dillon, a senior at Rogers High School, has earned his Eagle Scout award, the highest honor bestowed by the Boy Scouts. He is a member of Troop 242. His project was cleaning the grounds around the Corbin Art Center.

Matthew Korst, a senior at Gonzaga Prep, received one of 30 scholarships from Pitney Bowes Inc. The award is a four-year $2,500 scholarship. He is the football team manager and a member of the National Honor Society. He is a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
