Pair’s Pitching Boosts Rivals

The River City Rivals 16U girls fastpitch softball team got solid pitching from Janessa Karstens and Tarrah Brown during victories in the Walla Walla Invitational 18U tournament last weekend.

North Siders Karstens and Brown allowed only five runs in the tournament while their teammates were scoring 30.

Between them, the pair pitched three shutouts.

Included among the team victories were wins over the 18U LaGrande (Oregon) Smoke in the semifinals and Walla Walla Air Op in the finals.

Weekend temperatures exceeded 100 degrees Sunday.

The Rivals finished first in the Red Division of the Spokane Girls Fastpitch Association’s 18U league despite the fact the girls could have played at a level lower. They will be involved in league championship tournament play this week.
