Alice Ludvik Spokane

Graveside service for Alice M. Ludvik, 83, will be at 1 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Genesee, Idaho, Mrs. Ludvik died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane since 1920 and worked for J.C. Penney and J.J. Newberry as a sales clerk. During World War II she worked as a machinist for General Machinery.

She was a charter member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Ludvik is survived by two daughters, Sandy Smallwood of Spangle and Diana Kempken of Spokane; a brother, Ralph Rosenau of Spokane; two sisters, Juanita Westlund of Redmond, Wash., and Dorothy McDonald of Woodland, Wash.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Irene Winings Spokane

Visitation for Irene Winings, 84, is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Winings, who died Tuesday, was born in Blue Creek, Wash.

She graduated from high school in Chewelah, Wash.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 39 years.

Her husband, Marvin Winings, died in 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, DonnaJean Watson of Grace, Idaho; a son, John Greenman of Colville, Wash.; a stepson, Dale Winings; two brothers, James and Jack Humphrey, both of Spokane; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

James Bachman Badger Lake, Wash.

Visitation for James Kerry Bachman, 70, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washtucna, Wash. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery in Washtucna.

Mr. Bachman, a lifetime Washtucna resident, died Tuesday.

He graduated from high school in Washtucna and served in the Navy from 1944 until 1946.

He attended barber college in Spokane and operated a barber shop in Washtucna. He also operated a shop in LaCrosse, Wash., a few days a week.

He married Eva Conrad in Spokane in 1948 and they lived in Washtucna.

He retired in 1991 and he and his wife moved to Badger Lake two years ago.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washtucna and the Washtucna Lions Club and had served on the Washtucna School Board and Town Council.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Randall Bachman of LaCrosse, Kerry Bachman of Goldendale, Wash., Lance Bachman of Asotin, Wash., and Layne Bachman of Spokane; three daughters, Lynnette Andeson of Goldendale, Evon Doyle of Pasco and Rebecca Neace of Asotin; two brothers, John Bachman of Anacortes, Wash., and William Bachman of Cheney; a sister, Annella Allen of Olympia; and 15 grandchildren.

Alma (Cuff) Moll Deer Park

Memorial service for Alma (Cuff) Moll, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Deer Park United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moll, who was born in Mina, S.D., died July 11.

She was a longtime Deer Park resident and graduated from Deer Park High School.

She worked for the post office in Deer Park and was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women.

Her husband, Floyd Moll, died in 1952.

She is survived by two sons, Vernon and Dale Moll, both of Spokane; a daughter, Vicki Powell of Sagle, Idaho; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Ogden Hall Shelter for Women and Children in Spokane.

Willy Purcell Spokane

Service for William “Willy” Purcell, 64, is set for 1 p.m. today at Precht-Harrison Chapel in Omak, Wash. Burial will be at Omak City Cemetery.

Mr. Purcell, who died July 8, was born in Omak.

He had lived in Spokane since he was 12.

He is survived by a brother, Walter Purcell of Portland; and three sisters, Kathleen Jensen of Bridgeport, Wash., Viola Davis of Rebublic, Wash., and Betty Richardson of Nespelem, Wash.

Doreen Shyvers Spokane

Memorial service for Doreen M. Shyvers, 69, is set for 1:30 p.m. today at St. Ann Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shyvers, who died Tuesday, was born in Neche, N.D.

She had been a resident of Spokane since 1955 and had worked as a waitress.

Mrs. Shyvers was a member of St. Ann Parish, Post Falls American Legion Auxiliary and the Spokane Rotary Club.

Her husband, Richard, died in 1984.

She is survived by two sons, David Schweitzer of Plano, Texas, and Neil Schweitzer of Spokane; a daughter, Linda McGinn of San Diego; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Helen Turmes Spokane

Graveside service for Helen L. Turmes, 89, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Turmes, a longtime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

Born in Yakima, she graduated from Hillyard High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 51.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles; two sons, Don Packer of Sumner, Wash., and Edwin Packer of Spokane; two brothers, Clarence McLaughlin of Olympia and Howard McLaughlin of Spokane; a sister, Esther Ostendorf of Fairbanks, Alaska; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Lillian Evans Spokane

Graveside service for Lillian Faye (Robinson) Evans, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Evans, who died Tuesday, was born in Lenore, Wyo.

She graduated from high school in Thermopolis, Wyo.

In 1936 she married Dean Evans in Worland, Wyo. He died in 1941.

She and her sons moved to Spokane in the mid 1940s. She worked at Babyland Diaper Service for many years, and later worked at Sacred Heart Hospital and Cliff Manor.

She is survived by two sons, Dean Evans of Mansfield, Wash., and Donald Evans of Spokane; a brother, Daniel Robinson of Riverton, Wyo.; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Lester Sawtells Spokane

Visitation for Lester DeVoist Sawtells, 85, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Free Methodist Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Sawtells, a 57-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

Born in Molson, Wash., he and his wife, Ruth (Davies) Sawtells, moved to Spokane from Oroville, Wash.

He managed the Blue Spruce Motel and owned Jiffy Suds Laundromats in Spokane.

He was a member of the First Free Methodist Church and was the last remaining charter member of the West Spokane Kiwanis Club.

His wife preceded him in death.

Mr. Sawtells is survived by two daughters, Diane Darnell of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Lorrie Workman of Spokane; a brother, Alden Sawtells of Oroville; two sisters, Lucille Hogenson and Gladys Bolton, both of Auburn, Wash.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Morley Bridgeport, Wash.

Memorial service for Kenneth Douglas Morley, a former Coulee Dam resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coulee Dam Community Church. Bergh Funeral Home in Oroville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Morley, 80, died Tuesday.

He was born in Getchell, Wash., and graduated from high school in Oroville.

He married Delores Osborne in 1938 and they lived in Coulee Dam from 1942 to 1968.

Mr. Morley worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. He transferred to Bonneville Power Administration in Pasco and then in Bridgeport. He retired in 1972.

He served as mayor of Bridgeport, from 1982 to 1985 and worked as a gunsmith after retirement.

He served in the Army and was a member of the Coulee Dam Community Church choir.

Mr. Morley is survived by his wife; four sons, Kendal Morley of Wenatchee, Larry Morley of Sicily, Don Morley of Grand Coulee and Tim Morley of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Karen Morley of Cheney; two brothers, Ron Morley of Elko, Nev., and Len Morley of Salkum, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marie Conrow Coeur d’Alene

Mass for Marie L. Conrow, 83, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Conrow, who was born in Kansas, died Wednesday.

In 1936 she moved to Spokane from Kansas and in 1937 moved to Coeur d’Alene.

She co-owned and operated the Conrow Brothers Meat Market for many years.

Mrs. Conrow was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and was active in parish functions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Conrow of Spokane and Patrick Conrow of Texas; one daughter, Kathleen Perez of Guam; two brothers, Patrick Farrell of Kansas and Jim Farrell of Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Russell Adkins Spokane

Memorial service for Russell W. Adkins, 36, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillyard Baptist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Adkins died Saturday from complications due to AIDS.

He was born in Newport, Wash..

He worked as a carpet and vinyl installer for 12 years and had lived in Spokane since 1965.

He was a member of Hillyard Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Millard and Clara Adkins of Spokane; three brothers, Rodger Adkins of Kennewick, Ron Adkins of Springdale, Wash., and Rick Adkins of Newman Lake; and a sister, Sheila Brock of Ford, Wash.

Lillian Kukler Spokane

Memorial service for Lillian Wubbens Kukler, 98, is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Valley Good Samaritan Chapel. There will be private inurnment. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kukler, who died Saturday, was born in Springs, S.D., and had lived in Spokane since 1942.

She worked as a cook and was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Vivianna Dunster of Seattle, and Dee Etta Steffen and Jeanne Lind, both of Spokane; a son, Marvin Wubbens of Auburn, Wash.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Viola Dietzel Greenacres

Visitation for Viola M. Dietzel, 84, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Born in Pleasant Township, Iowa, Mrs. Dietzel died Tuesday.

She was a 45-year resident of Greenacres and had worked for Valley Good Samaritan Center for 20 years. She retired in 1988.

Her husband of 39 years, William Dietzel, died in 1968.

She is survived by three daughters, Vernetta Plumley of Veradale, Evelyn Krause of Lynnwood, Wash., and Judith Smallwood of Otis Orchards; three sons, Harvey Dietzel of Post Falls, Marvin Dietzel of Spokane and O.W. “Buck” Dietzel of Greenacres; two sisters, Velma Tucker of Greenacres and Elsie Taylor of Billings, Mont.; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bruce McKay Spokane

Visitation for Bruce R. McKay, 93, is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Endicott (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born in Endicott, Wash., Mr. McKay died Tuesday.

He was a farmer in the St. John, Wash., area, and later in Endicott. He moved to Cheney and operated a farm in Amber, Wash. He also ran rodeo stock in the Cheney area in the 1920s and 1930s.

He retired in 1972 and moved to Spokane.

He was a charter member of the Amber Grange Wheat Growers and was a member of the Washington State Cattlemen’s Association and the Graves Township Board.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sarah McKay; a son, Donald McKay of Spokane; a daughter, Barbara Vanweck of Napa, Calif.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
